Despite its reputation as a party destination, Gili T also offers plenty of quiet spots where you can unwind and enjoy.
With no motorized vehicles allowed on the island, the atmosphere is laid-back, and the air is refreshingly clean. The island is small enough to explore by bike or on foot, making it an easy and enjoyable destination to navigate.
Things to Do in Gili T
1. Scuba Diving
Gili Trawangan is a scuba diver’s dream. The shallow waters surrounding the island are teeming with marine life, the vibrant coral reefs are filled with tropical fish and an abundance of sea turtles. There are several dive schools on the island, but our favorite is Blue Marlin Divers. They offer courses for all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced divers.
You can dive at popular sites like Shark Point, where you might see reef sharks, or explore the underwater world at Turtle Heaven, famous for its numerous sea turtles.
2. Rent a Bike
With no cars or motorbikes on Gili T, renting a bicycle is the best way to get around. You can easily find rental shops and even lots of the hotels/hostels around the island with bikes.
Riding along the sandy paths you’ll pass by many beaches, restaurants, markets, and cafes. The island is small enough to circle by bike in about an hour, but you’ll likely want to stop along the way to enjoy the views or a drink.
3. Snorkelling
Snorkelling is another great way to explore Gili T’s underwater world. The island’s shallow reefs are perfect for spotting colorful fish, corals, and, of course, sea turtles.
Popular snorkelling spots include the area near the Gili Meno Wall and Turtle Point. You can join a guided snorkelling tour or simply rent gear and head out on your own. Don’t forget to bring a GoPro to capture the stunning marine life!
4. Underwater Statues
If you opt for a guided snorkelling trip, find one that includes the underwater statues near Gili Meno. Created by British sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, these life-sized human figures form a unique and eerie underwater gallery.
The statues are located just off the coast of Gili Meno, but you can easily reach them from Gili T by boat. The site is shallow, making it accessible for snorkelers and freedivers. The sculptures are quickly becoming part of the reef, attracting a variety of marine life.
5. Kayaking and Paddleboarding
Kayaking and paddleboarding are peaceful ways to explore Gili T’s coastline. You can rent kayaks or stand-up paddleboards from various beachfront rental shops and set off at your own pace.
A nice place to go is on the east coast where you can paddle over toward neighboring Gili Meno. If you’re lucky, you might even spot some marine life, like turtles coming up for air. For an even more relaxing experience, head out around sunset.
6. Full Moon Party
Gili T is famous for its Full Moon Parties, where the island shows its party side. As the name suggests, these monthly events are only on during the full moon. So, if you want to go, try to line it up with your Indonesia itinerary. You can check ahead for the full moon dates.
The party is held on the beach and features live music, DJs, fire dancers, and plenty of neon paint. The party usually lasts until the early hours of the morning, with a lively atmosphere and a big crowd.
7. Outdoor Cinema
For a more laid-back evening, head to one of Gili T’s outdoor cinemas. These beachside venues offer a unique movie-watching experience, with comfortable bean bags and popcorn under the stars.
Films range from recent blockbusters to beloved classics and are a relaxing way to wind down after a day of exploring. Check the schedules in advance and see which films you want to see—there are a few cinemas so there’s usually a decent choice.
Grab a drink, settle in, and enjoy a movie with the sound of the waves in the background.
8. High Dive at Rabbit Jump
If you like a bit of adrenaline, the high dive at Rabbit Jump is a must-try. This popular spot on the island’s western side offers three levels of diving platforms where you can jump into the deep pool.
The diving boards aren’t the only reason to come here, there’s also foam/pool parties, great drinks, and an incredible sunset.
9. Beach Clean – Free Beer at Pesona
Pesona Beach Resort is committed to keeping the islands beaches clean, and you can be part of the effort.
If the good feeling of helping the community and preserving the islands beauty isn’t enough, the bar also rewards you with a free beer or coffee for a bag full of trash!
10. Crazy Golf
If you’re looking for a fun and quirky activity, how about a round of crazy golf. Gili T has a small course that’s perfect for a chilled afternoon with friends.
The course is well-designed, with tricky holes and creative obstacles. It’s a great way to take a break from the beach and enjoy some gentle competition.
11. Cat Cafe
Animal lovers can’t miss a stop at Gili T’s Cat Cafe, a cozy spot where you can relax with a coffee and some friendly felines.
The cafe is home to several rescue cats, and you can spend time playing with them and watching them lounge around. The Cat Cafe also supports local animal welfare efforts, so your visit helps contribute to a good cause.
