The tubing experience usually starts near the Owen Falls Dam (Nalubale Dam) upstream and takes you on a gentle journey down the river, passing through calm sections as well as a few mild rapids. If you want more than mild, they also offer white water tubing, and extreme tubing.

The calm sections of the river allow for a peaceful float, giving you time to take in the stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. You can get out of the ring if you want and float around in the river.

Keep your eyes peeled for the incredible wildlife around here. We had an inquisitive group of otters swim right up to us at one point! There’s also plenty of monkeys and interesting birdlife in the trees.

White-water rafting is probably the most popular activity here, with Jinja being one of the top spots in Africa. The Nile’s rapids vary in intensity, offering challenges for both beginners and experienced rafters.

You can also quad bike through the rural areas surrounding Jinja with guided tours taking you through villages and along scenic paths.

If you prefer a more laid-back experience, there’s a sunset cruise on the Nile. The cruises often include drinks and snacks or they’re at least available for purchase on board.

Budget: The Haven Eco River Lodge offers some of the best camping in Uganda, it was our personal favorite for pitching our own tent. They also offer pre-pitched tents and lodges. The site has incredible views of the River Nile, an abundance of wildlife, a swimming pool, and a great restaurant with river views.

How to Get to Jinja

Getting to Jinja is relatively easy. It’s located about 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Kampala, Uganda’s capital, or 90 miles (145 kilometers) from Entebbe, and the roads are pretty decent. The worst part is getting out of the traffic in Kampala, but after the city limits the roads are much quieter.

Assuming you are doing a longer trip around Uganda, the best options for getting around are either to rent a 4×4 and self-drive or hire a driver. Road Trip Africa offer both options.
